I am looking at purchasing a 1990 Grady White with a Johnson V6 200. The power head was replaced a year ago. The boat is in great shape but I am worried about the engine and know little about the V6. What do you think?

Take the boat for a trial run before you buy it. Check to see it starts easily, idles well (should idle around 600 in gear, give or take), shifts smoothly, accelerates smoothly, runs good on the top end, tilt/trim working properly. After the test run check for any water in the lower unit lube, and a compression check (the V6 loopers come out of the factory with low compression, brand new they're around 85 to 90 from what I've been told. If they're all within 10% and above 80ish that's good) . If everything's good then go for it.

By the way, why would you be worried about that particular engine?

I would rather see 100- 110 psi. My preference. Great engine.

Re: 1996 Johnson V6 200HP

I had a Johnson 70 HP and had allot of trouble with it and had to have the power head replaced. I bought it brand new in 1985. When the owner told me he had a new power head put on it brought back old wounds. And I just sold a boat up north with a Yamaha 150 four stroke which was great. I know I can't compare the two. But I really like the Grady White and this boat is very affordable. Thanks for responding
