has the original Johnson 115. Owned the boat since new. Today out on the lake the gauges started acting flaky. The first thing I noticed was the lights and warning tone came on like when you start it. Did not happen again so stayed out doing some fishing. After starting it up again now it started happening on and off. Watching the voltage it would go low and then jump back up. Sometimes it would do the restart sequence again. I did not have far to get to shore so brought her in and it kept doing it randomly. I started raising the motor and then that stopped working too. Once I was in and the motor was shut off I could then use the trim switch again. I don't have my meter with me to check voltages yet so I just checked that everything was tight at the battery which they seemed to be. My fish locator was showing low 11's for the voltage and it did not increase like you would normally see when then revs are higher. Pretty much stayed right there no matter what speed I was going. Sometimes the volt meter on the boat itself went really low on the voltage like down to nine. Not sure exactly what would cause the warning lights to reset. Imagine that is some signal from the motor that it has started. So maybe if the voltage was low enough it would trip those to think the engine was starting. Anything else I can check until I can get a meter on it? Once I get one where should I start checking the voltages? The stator has never been replaced. I have replaced leaky carb bowls, the thermostat, starter and of course multiple water pumps. But none of those was done recently. Think the water pump was the last thing I did about three years ago and that still seems strong. Forgot to mention the kill switch stopped working awhile back. Not sure when it went bad but I no longer need the attachment on at the key to get it to start.

Thanks it advance for any advice you can give me

I tried putting the kill switch lanyard back on. Took it for a short ride and everything worked normally. So I think I will try replacing the kill switch first.

So the kill switch had stopped working, but maybe today it was kind of working on its own??

Sounds like a bad switch or a loose wire that is grounding out intermittently.

If thats not it, take a look at your rectifier and test the stator with your meter.
