I am not able to find a socket to change the spark plugs in my outboard that I recently purchased from a private party. A local dealer told me I need a quality thin wall 5/8 socket, he suggested Craftsman or Snapon. I have the Craftsman but it doesn't fit. There is very little room between the plug and the block so I have not found a socket that fits. Where can I get a tool to change my plugs? Thanks.

Pete,
I have a 96 Mariner 50 4S...The original plugs are NGK DPR6EA9 and a wrench came with the engine that fits them. It measures 11/16 across the inside of the flats. A 5/8 socket will NOT fit over the NGK plugs. NGKs are gold colored and Champions are silver.

I switched to Champions 810C (also ref old number of RA8HC) and a 5/8 deep socket fits them.

bp
