My low speed windings went bad on my stator coil, I bought a new one installed it and I have noticed the motor doesnt run as smooth as it should at idle, its not bad but a little rough. If I am going slow and punch it then it has about a 4 to 5 second delay before it takes off. I didnt take notice of the position of the old stator when I pulled it off and I want to make sure I positioned the new one on correctly, is there a chance it could be in the wrong position? The new stator didnt come with any directions telling how to install it. I dont know if the motor ran smoother before I bought the motor with the bad stator so I never heard it run before.

Re: 1996 merc 125 stator coil position

I'm probably going to get some disagreement here, but the position of the stator is not important. It really doesn't matter because a stator make voltage, nothing more. It does not affect timing. Did you buy a new, reman or used stator? Did you get the new upgrade kit or an aftermarket stator?

Also if you have good fire and have a delay in accelleration, look at the two check valves on the starboard side of the block. they provide additional fuel on hard accelleration via a small pump. If these are clogged, thay can create this situation.

Good luck and keep us informed!

I bought a new stator it is the CDI one with a different part number then the original so I assume it is the upgraded one. I will check out the fuel clogging issue because the motor sat for 3 years without being started, they stabilized the gas but still 3 years could of clogged something. Thanks for your help
