have a 96 mercury 125 hp, 2+2, bought used 2 yrs ago, so no knowledge of previous history but seems it was only freshwater use, anyway tilt trim seemed to work reasonably well when i bought it, though it seemed loose, i.e. if out of water you could move engine manually up a bit when it should have been tight and stopped in position, anyway last year never ran it, i live in a northern Canadian climate so -35 celsius weather has happened to this motor as it sits outside, this year ran it and it would shake at low speed, and was very hard to trim up all the way, actually worked a bit in trim range of motion but very poor in tilt range of motion, opened up fill valve while it was up and out poured dark chocolate milk, so there was water in the trim fluid, so i got all of that out, and refilled with atf lll fluid, along with trying to cycle it and get the air out, etc, i.e. manually have motor up, open reservoir add fluid til it comes out, close fill cap, release 'holder on side of engine' then release with manual release pin on side of reservoir, let it down, wait a minute, manually lift up, open reservoir, fill reservoir, then cap it, lower it manually, and yada, when i tighten manual release valve and let the engine go from top it falls down to trim level of operation i.e. top point of lower operation, whereby i can use the tilt trim switch to let it down all the way and all points in between but it works very poorly if at all in going back up, any ideas of what is going on? at the same point i notice a very small amount of atf coming out of the seal at bottom of the stainless ram(rod)i.e. from the seal in the cap with the 4 holes in( it for a spanner tool), a tiny yet noticeable if you wipe it amount. I'm hoping this is just a case of an o-ring or a few o-rings needing replacement, all ideas/answers appreciated, thanks in advance. this is a single ram unit, serial number for engine is 0G015047
