need help please
i have a 96 200 merc efi sat up for 2 yrs(no ethanol).been cleaning and replaceing filters and so forth.have it running but when i go to wot it shuts down restarts easy.put a guage on it and ran at 2000 rpm runs ok then fuel pressure drops.pump checks good even opened plug and let it run for a while.
my question is how do you or can you manually check fuel pressure regulator to see if its working correctly.like hook to a vacum pump and see if it opens.
not really sure how its suppose to work.do know the thing is 149.00 and hate to buy if i can check it and see if its ok 1st

With guage connected it should be 38-40 psi when running, if it falls during this time without pump quitting it a bad regulator,if you here pump stutter it a bad pump..If yours is the external pump and its bad go to Brucatosvs.com and buy the replacement for $170 vs Merc $600

The ECU varies the ground to pump so thats not a good test, test pressure when you turn key on..

ok i ran pressure ck and its 36-37lbs.thats normal.at idle it is same.at 2000rpms and in gear its same then drops to 20lbs and rpms drop as if no fuel.its up and down at 2000 rpms.in the lake itll die due to load on engine.starts right back up without turning key off and on,just turn key to start and itll start.
