only had this boat for about a month and i noticed that the battery was about dead after riding in it awhile, the starter would barely click and the navigation lights where dim. i started the boat with the pull handle and starts fine but the lights are still dim with the engine running and rpms up.any help on diagnosis with this problem would be helpful

That motor may not have a charging system. I'm not sure if all 1996 models had a charging system or not.

Or it may be inoperable. Could be as simple as a broken wire, or a failed rectifier, or stator.

Like roscoe said earlier, if the engine is a converted electric it may not have a alternator, ck. to see if you have 2 yellow wire coming out from under the flywheel that go to the rectifier (a small rectifier thats about 1" square and also has a red wire attached to it) if so you have a alternator, then take a OHM meter and ck the 2 yellow wires if the have continuiet thru them and none to ground the stater is aright replace the rectifier and you sould be chargeing again
