I'm looking at a 1996 Sea Ray F-14 Sea Rayder with a Mercury Sport Jet 120xr. The seller is getting rid of it because it has a blown motor due to a thrown rod.
My question is:
How much time and money would it be to replace the rod?
Would it be better off taking it to a marine mechanic or would a friend that is somewhat familiar with boat motors be able to handle it?
The seller said everything else worked fine before it blew so is it possible that other components have been damaged?
What would i be looking at in the worst case scenario?
Thanks in advance for any responses. Just hoping for some feedback from those that have a comprehensive understanding of this type of issue.
