Yes, a battery that's not at full charge will do that. I didn't believe it when people told me that's what was causing my 96 XP not to fire. Even though I knew that battery was good (it started one of my Yamahas just fine) I went ahead and recharged it anyway. The next day, it fired up the 96 XP. Any time I'm going to run one of my XPs, I make sure the batteries are fully charged!

I'm going to assume that you've checked to make sure that all the fuses are good, right?

I have to absolutely agree that anything less than a full battery charge, the XP will not fire. This is from experience.

i know it first hand that the battery has to be perfect condition go buy a new one and not a walmart one either i found the maint free gel batteries have high cranking amps and thats what it need then you'll have alot less issues 787's are known for this issue ive had also where it will start take it out and then dies when accelerating cause same thing battery bad
