Poking around looking for a steal (again) and ran across this at a local marina. Noticing the outdrive is a Volvo Cobra. Is that the same as later OMC Cobras? Are these good drives or are they considered cursed like OMC drives during that era?

Boat sure looks nice (haven't gone to see it).

That is the Volvo SX drive. Nothing like the older (93 and older) drives.
Volvo cone clutch, no shift interrupt sytem, Great drive, and can easily be converted to a Duo Prop, buy replacing the lower unit only.

Hrmmm, that's good info. From what I understand, Wellcraft is a pretty decent brand boat too. Maybe I'll have to find some time to take a look at it & come up with some good sales pitch for the wife :D

Sheesh! Thanks for that. Guess I'll have to give it a close look if/when we look at it. Have to learn a bit more about these late OMC & early Volvo drives. If I buy a different boat I want to be done with OMC for good :p

It's probably just something that was done on the Big Block engines, with the cone clutch OMC drive. With a small block it will probably be the SX, since OMC never used the King cone on anything but big blocks and Fords. At least that is what I used to thing ..................
