1997 150 Ficht water sensor - check engine

I had the engine checked by the local service mechanic. He said he could not eliminate the water in fuel filter error. Check engine keeps coming up along with a 15 sec horn from time to time. There is definitely no water in the canister and engine runs smoothly. Mechanic suggested to replace the electronic control unit. Can anyone help?

My 36 years in the outboard repair business tech ran a code test and found that the chk. eng. light had a "water in fuel" code. He took the filter off and found NO water in the fuel. He told me it was a false alarm and that my computer board had a hick-up for the "water in fuel" alarm. He told me to either buy a new computer board @ $1800.00 for the chk. eng. light or run it like it is....So I've been listening to that 15 sec beep for 9 months now. My 150 runs like a top!
