Need a little help with a 1997 150 HP Johnson FICHT. Since I purchased my boat two years ago it has always easily started and run great. However last weekend I idled away from the launch and then went WOT for about 5 miles then idled into a cove and shut down to anchor and swim. Two hours later when we had all had enough sun I attempted to start the motor and it wouldn’t pop. I went to the back of the boat and could smell fuel and it appeared to be flooded. So I phoned a friend and he suggested that I throttle up in neutral to start. No luck at all after many many tries. Had to phone another friend to get towed back to the launch. We put the boat in the garage and called it a night. The next day I removed the air intake and it was dripping with fuel. Then I pulled all the plugs which were also soaked and let the motor air out for a couple days. I have since purchased new spark plugs and properly indexed them accordingly(*see back story below). The boat fired right up but ran very rough while white smoke and some oil appeared to be coming from the exhaust. Normally I would have increased the rpm but I chickened out. Any advice is appreciated on what could have caused this, any damage I could have caused, or how to proceed? Thanks in advance!

*Back story: New to this boat (any boats really, as it’s my first) I didn’t know that the spark plugs for this motor needed to be indexed, so when I winterized the boat last year I didn’t index them, however, it has run perfectly fine on 10 separate occasions prior to the above event. Also prior to this particular trip I added XD100 oil instead of XD50 that was previously used. This was based on the recommendation of the shop that the previous owner used. They said there was no issue mixing and that’s what they would do if I brought it in for service.

. I would think its really difficult for raw fuel to get into the air silencer on that motor. Post model number. Post results of compression test. If that model used a pulse style lift pump it could have leaked into crankcase. That would be what I check first. Remove pulse pump and squeeze bulb...does fuel spit out the pulse fitting?
