Hello everyone - first off I have searched for said manual and have not had any luck with the manual links.

Second off I understand how to set Thunderbolt V into timing base mode.

My main question is I don’t know what to set the timing at. I only boat at 6,000 ft plus elevation and need a good starting point.

Any help is greatly appreciated
Thanks Kyle

I hope the more experienced guys chime in to help more but in the meantime I attached the Electrical Systems section from Manual 25. Should include the part about the Thunderbolt V system. Although this manual is from 1999 I don't think procedures had changed since 1997.

Also, I was learning a lot today from achris' rundown on the TBolt system from the Adults Only section: 21. How Mercruiser Thunderbolt IV and V works.

EDIT: I should also add that you may even want to call Mercruiser/Mercury Customer Service. When I used to call they would answer the phone every time and be very helpful. They might just have a list of timing suggestions for different elevations.

Thanks for the attachment - I had seen a couple pages of this manual before but nice to read all of it. Calling Mercruiser is also a great idea. Thanks you for the leads.

Timing is 8* BTDC
Thanks for the input alldodge, is this standard base timing that the engine cover would say - bought boat with out engine cover and merc sticker?
Or is 8* BTDC including the 2* advance for altitude above 5,000’?
Thank you
