I have a quote for replacing the lower unit bearings in my 1997 mercruiser bravo 3 7.4 liter engine at $4,400.00. Can anyone with knowledge help me understand if this price is fair?

If this is the main and rod bearings of the 7.4 engine only, my first question would be why are you doing just thoes. If something is wrong with the engine the whole thing needs to be gone through. You can pickup a rebuilt 7.4 330 HP long block GEN V for 3000, GEN VI 3500 w/cor, or GEN VI new for 5000

Welcome to IBOATS.

Seems like a little more information might help us understand and answer your question though as ALLDODGE alluded to, that seems a bit high upon first glance.

What's going on that someone is saying you just need to replace the lower end bearings?

Does this price include all labor including pulling the engine out and re-installation, aligning the engine before installing the drive, etc. etc. etc.?

If you're really needing to pull the engine, this might be the time to have some other maintenance items done so a complete longblock with warranty might be the way to go.

You can buy a rebuilt lower unit with warranty and replace it yourself for under 2500. That price is way high.

For sure, I agree with this. $4400 to repair anything in a lower unit it TOO MUCH money. $3000 right here on iboats.

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,... as noted above, if yer talkin' 'bout the Lower unit on the Outdrive, Ya, that's High,...

If yer talkin' 'bout the Motor,... That's even worse, a rebuild motor can be found for that kinda change,...

As the others have said . . . It is good money if you can get it . . . but by no means a fair price. Time to shop around.
