Hi,

Just got this motor. The guy I got it from ran it in a barrel for me. The barrel had a significant amount of oil in it, and when I brought it home, I noticed a small amount of oil coming out of the prop area. So I changed the lower unit oil as a precaution. It was black and smelled burnt. It did not appear to have any water in it and took at least 15 minutes to fully drain.

Is this a problem? I've heard that burnt smell to this oil means that exhaust is getting its way into the oil.

I'm a only a little concerned about the oil color; it's probably just old and needed a change. But what do you think about the leaking oil issue? I'm not really sure what to think since there was no water in the oil.
