looking a 1997 blue fin 180 off shore with a 1997 90 hp mercury 2 stroke. The engine has just over 60 hours on it. I am wondering if this few hours on an engine this old is bad. the boat and trailer are in awesome shape but it is hard to tell how good the engine really is. is this kind of engine reliable? any pointers would be great! Thanks:)

How do you know it has just 60 hours of run time? If the boat has an hour meter it may have been installed 60 hours ago and the engine may actually have hundreds of hours. At any rate, if the motor was stored properly low hours is not an issue. The test is to get it on the water and run it.

The engine design is excellent. The kind of care it has had is the kicker. Poor care can ruin the best while good care can make mediocre engines shine. Need to know that answer; course there are ways to know. Lots of threads on here to answer those questions.
