Having some issues with this kicker motor. Took the boat out and the motor was very hard to start. Only wants to run with the choke 1/2 on. Intermittent problems with idle speeding way up, or slowing way down. Took the carb off, it had some junk in it. Now when I can get it to start gas runs out the top of the carb, but gas doesn't leak out when the motor is off, even with the primer bulb pumped up hard.

Looking for help.

Is there a particular part of the carb I should be looking at? It's very puzzling that it doesn't leak unless the motor is running. And it leaks around the plastic carburetor cover on top.

It leaks when the motor is running because the fuel pump is working, and it.is overpowering the carb. Like racer said revisit your carb work maybe a proper cleaning and a carb kit for.it.

Ok, so this is my dads motor. He's very mechanical, and just rebuilt the carb. So its freshly cleaned and rebuilt, with a new rebuild kit. I was hoping maybe it was an easy fix, like he missed a piece, but everything looks right.

Kits for the models with plastic tops come with two or three cover gaskets -- maybe using the wrong one. Match the gasket cutouts to the carb. While up there, spray out every opening/orifice with carb spray, using the plastic nozzle.

The ops motor is a 4 strk Evinrude.

I believe the 4 stroke carburetors are nearly the same as the 2 stroke models.----A few minor variations.
