The 1997 Evinrude 4hp I have has a broken plastic choke assembly. One of the parts was $35+ shipping for itself, and I opted to buy a complete similar rebuilt carburator with the linkages for around $50. It's not 100% direct swap like I thought.

The old carb has 3 lines. One to carb body, and 2 to the valve in the bowl. The new carb ( from a 1989 Evinrude ) has the port in the carb body plugged.. the third line in my 1997 motor terminates into the side of the case, I'm not quite sure what it does.. What is the possibility of just plugging up the third line which just goes to crankcase?

That third line is a pulse line for the fuel pump I think.----Does the 97 carburetor have a wee bladder in it some where ?

the carb bodies look identical, and the float bowls share the same part number/ valve assembly. I don't see where there is an internal pump. The correct carb appears to have run from 1992-1997.. You can see the plug on this new/1989 carb. Where that plug is on the 1997 carb is a nipple

The pump bolts to the block just like the 1982 4hp I have.. The 1997 Evinrude has an internal tank AND, an external connector. From stock, The fuel tank runs to the big port on the float bowl, and the little port on the float bowl went to the crankcase line. The fuel connector hose ran up to the fuel pump, and then to the port in the carb casting.. I also had to swap the nipple style port from the old carb to replace that one, on the new carb.

I would simply swap over the plastic parts to the old carb and throw a kit in it, but If I break anything I'm at square one.

The factory installed that wee bladder on the original carburetor.----I recall they are a red rubber item.----Have you looked for it , yes or no ?
