Hoping for some sharp troubleshooter to give me a hand diagnosing the problem in the motor. I have confirmed that spark is Not coming from the power module to one cylinder. Swapping the output from the power module to the coil results in the problem following the blue orange wire from the module. In other words the coil files OK to each plug when the blue orange wire is connected to the appropriate connector. So my coil pack is good. Now, before condemning the power pack I want to understand and check out what signal inspires the power module to trigger the correct coil at the right time. Looking at the parts diagram I see a dual pickup stator and some other sort of "charging" coil. It is not clear what the 5 pin connector going to the pwr module is connected to. The stator has three wires and appears to have ring connectors which must go to the buss connector on the mortor side opposite the pwr module. I can't find a wiring diagram so can't really guess how the thing works. If the stator coils do fire the power module, I can check them with my ohm meter to see if they are OK. What else could it be, the wiring and connectors are nice and clean. Motor is an 8HP twin.

+1 as above the most likely

You dont give the model number but I assume its a 2 stroke engine not a 4 stroke

The stator coil with three ( yellow ) wires is either for powering AC lighting or for battery charging. If the latter it will or can be connected to a rectifier at a terminal block.
Battery charging is standard, I think, on sail / Yachtwin models but available as an accessory on others.
What you say suggests this might be a Yachtwin. If so it has various features making it suitable for use on a small sail boat. ( Longshaft, modified exhaust outlet and a 6½" pitch, high thrust prop as well as battery charging)

You can only check coils for continuity with a multimeter. You cannot tell if turns are shorting.

Yes it is a Yachtwin model. Of course a 2 stroke. So what triggers the power pack? From what is said above it is not the stator nor the charging coil, which leaves what? Optical? Magnetic/inductive?

The stuff under the flywheel is very good and relable.--One charge coil and one sensor coil.----If the charge coil and sensor coil fire one cylinder they will also fire the other cylinder if the CD unit is good.

Look at the parts diagram on the BRP parts website. You will see the stator coil and the other coils that power and trigger the CD power pack.

As above they are reliable and obviously working.

It only leaves the powerpack to be the defective item. but check all the connections before spending money on a new one.
