Re: 1997 force problems

That sounds like it is getting enough fuel at partial throttle and running out of fuel at full throttle, indicating full fuel capacity is not being delivered for some reason. So you need to check the entire fuel system starting at the tank and working to the carbs. Check the easiest things first. Make sure the filter has not partially clogged again then remove the fuel pump and check the diaphragm and check valves. Square shaped Mercury fuel pump has rubber check valves and they do go bad. Check fuel lines for clogs and if you have a quick-connect check that too. Check the strainer inside the tank.

Go to any Merc Dealer. Give them your engine year and model number. It should be on one of the mounting clamps. It is a Mercury fuel pump but you don't need the whole pump, just the diaphragm and check valves. You would need to take out a second motgage to buy the complete pump--and it's plastic. I am reasonably cretain that they offer a kit for it.
