I need to get the starter off of my engine so that I can get the carb off. I just can't seem to figure out how to do it. It looks like the mount that the starter is in will have to be removed, but I can't find many of the bolts.

I can find one for sure on the port side about 3-4 inches behind the starter near the top of the bracket.

I can find another on the front of the engine an inch or two above the carb.

Then I'm stuck. When I remove those bolts, the starter is just as solidly in place as it was before.

Please don't tell me I have to remove the long bolts under the starter that attach it to the bracket. That seems impossible.

there should be a bolt at the bottom of the bracket that grounds the block to the lower engine cover

Is that the same bolt that holds the positive connection for the starter? It comes out?

no, it's not on the starter, it's on the bottom of the starter bracket
