Kind of a common issue with them if you are sure the compression is 0 time to pull the head

juststartingout , if you shure of comp , my guess is you will have to pull head and have a look hopefully just a head gasket. it just a guess so wait for someone with more knowledge than me to chime in, good luck :joyous:

A faulty seal ring on the #2 hole in the head gasket would make an easy and cheap fix. If it's more that than, you are looking at a powerhead teardown and at least a partial overhaul. At this point, you need to be working from a genuine factory service manual. Check out this website: outboardbooks.com

I would check that head gasket real close..:cold: . I have replaced them on a JW and a couple 4hp

well since you opened it up I would change the (cheap) head gasket* good or not...

check the head for flatness with a steel ruler or piece of glass looking sideways.

if you see light ...it is warped.. you need to resurface it

* get the good OMC stuff

There are access covers on the side of the motor by the electrical panel you can remove those to see the side of the piston.

I do not believe there are any covers on the side of the block to look at the pistons and rings !
