Hi
I suspect I have issues with the CDI Power pack. Would a failing power pack display any symptoms, like engine missing, rough idle, stall at idle, before complete failure? Or are power packs either work or don't work? Thanks.

Start the trouble shooting with a compression test.----These motors have a history of problems with the # 2 cylinder.

yes powerpacks can do a whole lot of things when they fail but as mentioned by racerone so does loss of compression and thats easier and cheaper to diagnose

Compression is good on all 3: 120,115-122psi, no spark on any cyl now. Seems to be electrical, stator or power pack, or...?

A failing stator can cause same symptoms.....

I have retested the circuits using the CDI manual. The brown brown/yellow show no resistance (OL), the orange orange/black show about 340 ohms.
Tests on the timer base were OK, 2.2 to 2.3 Mohms. DVA readings on brown brown yellow were 0 V cranking, orange orange/black made 230V, and the 3 circuits on the timer base made 4 V. Cranking rpm around 800 on the dash tach. So it looks like my stator is pooched.
But what can pooch the stator? It is the original OMC encapsulated version and it looks like new, doesn't drip, look burned, or smell bad.
Also is there an easy test to see if the reg/rect is working OK at this point (bench test)?
