I am currently looking at a 97 Stratus Bass Boat with a 150 Faststrike. I have not seen the boat yet, however in email exchange with owner he says that some bolts under the flywheel came loose and sheered off. The flywheel is currently off so therefore I would be unable to check compression. My question is what kind of damage should I expect from the bolts sheering off and what could have caused this to happen...?

As always...Thanks in advance for replies

Honestly, there is really no way to tell what could be wrong with such an engine. Any thing would be merely speculation at best. If you are serious about purchasing this setup, I would absolutely buy the factory shop manual for that engine and start reading up to familiarize yourself to what could be wrong. But I would factory in that repair effort if I were looking to purchase it. I also would go low-ball and see what he would say. You could buy a simple fix issue, or a total rebuild effort. No way anybody on here can tell you which with just your comment and no pictures... :sorry:

on that model you cant see the flywheel at all unless you take the covers off the top of the motor...and when you do that you are removing a lot of tune up settings components...

here is a 175 FASTSTRIKE... see all those covers over the flywheel!!!! several layers!!! he must have taken them all off to figure the flywheel bolts came off... the thread could be damaged where it will be hard or impossible to replace the bolts!!!, the key way COULD be damaged.
