I recently purchased a 1997 Mariner 175 EFI on a Ranger 1997 690VS. When I run the motor at half throttle or greater and trim the motor, the motor cuts out and noticeably hesitates, then as soon as I let off the trim the motor runs perfectly. This phenomenon does not occur at idle speeds only under moving conditions. The mechanic at the local dealership has not seen this problem before and he checked spark and fuel pressure as trim was applied with no noticable changes. It seems to be an electrical problem possibly a ground issue but I have no other thoughts, anybody with ideas please let me know!!!

I'm not sure how fuel pressure was measured... could it still be a kink in fuel line being added with trim? How about crack/short in ignition wires coming out of the engine that occurs when the wire is flexed? For the wire you might be able to run with engine down, and move wires by hand to see if the engine starts hesitating. Will the engine idle OK if trimmed up? (then maybe not electrical/ignition - ?)

That's it for my thoughts... (and disclaimer, I'm no outboard guru).

Brent
