I have a 1997 Mercury EFI 200 with about 50 hours since new. It ran fine two weeks ago. I started it yesterday, it ran for about 15 seconds then quit. I restarted it and again it ran for about 10 seconds then it died and will not start. I have spark, fuel from the fuel filter but it will not run. I pulled the plugs squirted in some fuel it tried to fire. I replaced the plugs and tried again to start it nothing. The plugs stay dry. Fuel into the injection unit, oil into the injection unit but, no go.
I just discovered that there is now no fuel in the filter after I changed it. I pulled the diaphram pump on the side of the motor and it gets fuel from the tank but, not after the pump.

Fuel is drawn to the VSP or Body by the crankcase driven fuel pump. From there it is pressurized by the second fuel pump <--electric and sent up the rails to the injectors.

When you turn the engine on..you should be able to hear the electric fuel pump.

TMD
