1997 mercruiser 350 mag loss of power

I have a 1997 mercruiser 350 mag. Runs great for a mile then loses power when I give it the gas. Where do I start?

Check the contents of the fuel filter for anything but fresh clean gas

Could be any number of items. As stated check the contents of the fuel filter(s). Fuel pump/supply issues. Tune up related issues, cap/rotor, plugs, wires, timing, etc...

Is this carbureted or efi?

It is carbureted. Crazy thing is I don't see a fuel filter. The mechanical fuel pump goes straight to the carburetor. Does that seem right?

Yes, a water separating fuel filter would be located between the tank and the pump. Most likely a spin on, oil filter style.

If this is a Rochester or 2bbl mercarb there is a screen filter in the carburetor in the housing where the fuel line attaches
