I have the mercury engine with the oil injection, two things wrong one oil leaks from lower front base when shut down its 2 stroke oil. the other issue is that all the bolts that hold the crankshaft block together were loose. I tighten the up with a wrench ( should be torqued down ) after engine was winterized last year. Spoke with local mechanic he told me to fix the motor power head would have to be removed and bottom seal replaced appox 10hr labor. Is this worth getting fixed? Can I just have him disconnect oil injection and premix ? Does power head have to come off to tighten bolts correctly ? Thank you for any input!

Any evidence that the motor was apart before ?---What do you mean by " loose "----What did it take to tighten them?---1/2 turn ?----If they where really loose and for who knows how long then a teardown inspection is what I would do.----If you have to pay $100+ / hr for some one it will cost plenty.----Some will argue that approach.

The top left crankcase bolt was backed out all the way you could turn it back in with you fingers, all other bolts were loose meaning when I put a wrench on them them they were very easy to turn now these are the crankcase bolts that hold the block together. The bolts that hold the power head were loose still need to be tighten down by wrench. ie: they need to be tighten by like you would SNUG the bolt down, this is what I mean by loose, but looking at the block crankcase bolts one would say that they are factory tight bu appearance. Probably looking at a one grand bill or more to correct and if I go that route should I have them disconnect the oil injection and premix or it all this worth the money for this engine?

That motor has a good oil injection system I would leave it on. I would definitely have the motor torn down and looked at.

That is only a call you can make. I personally like those motors so I would spend the money just for the piece of mind. But that is me you may not feel the same.

Well as long as the design of the motor is reliable than I will have them fix it. You can not fix a bad motor from the get-go I have used it for three seasons it has not failed me. I have had many boats with outboards and never saw anything like this before weird that bolts would be coming lose?
