I have been trouble-shooting my Mercury Sport Jet for several days now, it wont start. engine Ser# 0E272394. I checked the Stator coil and Trigger resistence with my ohm meter, according to my book they should be ok. I checked the key switch and wiring, that seems ok too. Here is what I found, when I disconnect the Black/Yellow wire to the Inner Switch Box the boat will start right up. The minute I reconnect the Black/Yellow wire she goes dead again. Do I have a bad Inner Switch Box? If so know where I can get a cheap one? Do I need this wire attached? Thanks alot for the help.

Kevin

I have the 120 Mecury Jet drive. I believe the Black and yellow wire to be connected to the rev limiter. If so you don't have to connect it, but if you hop the boat you could do the engine in. From experience with mine, I would replace the rev limiter for I am seem to suck a little air.

Black with a yellow tracer is the kill circut. MAY be rev limiter but it could be your kill switch or key switch. Depends on which black yellow you unhooked.

I unhooked the black/yellow kill switch wire from switchbox #2, thats when and only when the boat will start. this wire runs from the key switch, then splits off to switch box#1, then switch box#2. This same wire also goes to the rev limiter. I thought it could be the rev limiter, but wouldnt switch box #1 have problems also. Its only one wire from the key switch, if that were the problem it seems like switch box#1 would have the same problem. Any additional thoughts? Any way to test the kill circuit in switch #2?

Thanks for the help
Kevin

I have also checked the safety switch with my meter, that seems to have good continuity.

I would separate each item and test for continuty. I would check the kill switch first, it's a simple micro switch that may not be able to make good contact. Try jumping it removed from the system.

Any place for the circuit to ground out will kill the motor. Check for a ground somewhere else untill the rev limiter is the last resort.
