I purchased this motor a few months ago, and now that my boat is near to completion I am almost ready to take it out Lord willing this weekend for testing. It didn't come with a prop and so I need some help.
I used to have a 1995 Yamaha 50hp 4 stroke, and if I remember correctly, I'm sure it had a 13" pitch prop, with 2 guys onboard hitting 32mph.
Now I got this 1997 Yamaha 115 2 stroke, which weighs about 150 lbs more, but obviously is more than 2x the horsepower. So I am wondering what would be an ideal prop to start off with? I might have to get 2 props to try, which ones, what pitch? Also, what is the max RPM for this motor? The motor had 119/120 PSI per cylinder and is in great condition, however it was serviced at a Yamaha dealer and sat on a stand for about the last 2-3 years. Started first try after sitting and sounds fantastic and is super clean inside and out. It was a backup motor that the previous owner had as he was running twin Yamaha 115s on his 22' whaler, so he had this sitting as a spare and never used it. Motor has around 300 hours on it. Not sure if these details help but rather list them just in case.
Also my boat is a 16.5' Campion center console and weighs around 1050 lbs dry. I also ended up getting Seastar hydraulic steering for it for a great price from the same guy I got the motor, though I doubt I'll need it, but you never know...
Any help please?
Thanks,
Nick
