Hi all

The PTT on my outboard seems to have died after flushing the motor last night (running with muffs, no water under cover)

Engine will not raise/lower - I can hear the relays "clicking" though but no "whiring"

Going to have a look myself - suspect loose connection or something.

Any pointers would be appreciated - common prob?

thanks

greg

hello
yep check all connections.
do you have a multi-meter? is it digital or analog and are you proficient with it?
this unit is a basic 2 wire motor that uses a pair of polarity reversing relays to run the motor clockwise or counter clockwise.
post us back and some one can give ya some help. let us know what meter your using.
good luck and keep posting.

You need a new trim motor. They fail all the time. Its Yamaha number 1 warranty problem.

Re: 1997 Yamaha 200 PTT question

Bugger - checked the pwr feed to the PTT motor, swings between +- 12v when switch pressed (measured on relays). Guess this means I have an opec cct to the motor

Will check the cable for a break (hoping) but the motor is starting to look suspect.

2nd Q - can I manually raise the engine. There is a screw on the LH side near the PTT motor. Is this a manual release of some sort?

cheers

Re: 1997 Yamaha 200 PTT question

Yes. Turn the screw in the direction of the arrow on the housing. It will bypass the hydralic system to manualy tilt the engine. You may need two people if the engine is all the way down.
