I have a 97 250 2 stoke, Its been burning a little more oil than usual this summer. The Overheat buzzer came on sunday and I shut it down right away. Had the mechanic look at it today and he says I need a new powerhead. It appears the 7th or 8th cylinder is roughed up a bit and overheating the engine. Should I even consider buying a powerhead or just pony up the 20Gs? Its on a 23 foot Grady that I plan on owning for the next ten years at least.

I know this probably isn't the forum for it but should I get the yamaha or the Honda if I go new. Tough decision.

Thanks!

Been there....10 years usually turns in to 2. Have someone have a second look, and seriously consider replacing powerhead. You'll never get your money back if you repower.

If you do repower, its usually way easier to do it with the same make motor and sticking with same controls, wiring, etc.
