I have a 1997 Yamaha 90 2-stroke. This past wednesday it would not start. So I got out the owner's manual and it said to disconnect the 'yellow wire' and it started right up. What does this mean and what will it take to repair? Is it a repair that I can do myself (I am not a mechanic, but I can do some things) and how much will it cost to repair? Will it hurt the motor to run it with this 'yellow wire' disconnected? Thanks for any and all info.

Re: 1997 Yamaha 90

it means you need to have the ign system tested by a competent Yamaha qualified tech, look for the electrical school certification on the wall.
by disconnecting the yellow wire it has placed the CDI in bybass mode, could be a failed component, misadjusted CDI or a failed CDI.
