I have a 90hp yamaha that has recently been giving me an overtemp alarm. I think it's giving me a false indication. The engine is pissing out plenty of cool water and the engine head doesn't feel all that hot to the touch. I read some stuff about there being faulty sensors and shorts that may be causing the problem. The thing is that when the alarm goes off on my boat, it stays on for a long time. Even when I shut the engine off and turn it back on, the overtemp alarm will still stay on for about 15min. I'm not sure what the problem is, any advice would help. Thanks

Maybe thermostats broken...that would cause the water to be cold when it does not cool all the motor. Check those thermostats first, only for to be sure that your engine does not seize. There also might be a reed valve that is broken. If the reed valve is broken it should run hot only with higher rpm.

I have a 115 hp 1998. Can you tell me where and how to get to the thermostat? I get warm water out the exhaust on the driveway, but perhaps it is not opening all the way
