1998 25 hp Johnson shallow drive assembly

Hi, I've got a 98 25hp Johnson (TELEC). Normally, when I swivel the motor up a little and push the motor lock lever forward, the shallow running drive brace will come forward and I could let the motor down and it would be in shallow running drive. Now, when I do this, the shallow running drive brace doesn't swing forward to engage. To get it into shallow running drive, I have to manually pull the shallow running drive brace forward and smash my fingers while letting the motor down on it.

The assembly must be missing a spring or something to pull the brace forward, but I can't figure it out.

Does anyone have a couple of pics that they could post of a working assembly? I would greatly appreciate it!

Go to Crowelly Marine website and look up your motor and the midsection for it. In the digram look at items 77 and 92 as these are the springs that make the tilt and shallow drive linkage work. Ether one is missing, broke, or not connected. The longer spring should hook to the longer rod with the loop in it and the U shaped part for the shallow drive. JMO
