I have a 1998 Johnson 35hp with VRO. I am shutting it down and mixing 50:1. I just plugged the nipple off from the oil tank and just need to unplug my oil level sensor and whatever other sensors. I don't know how to do this or which wires to follow where. any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

You'll need to locate the four wire leads from the vro pump and trace them back to an amphenol plug.Unplug this as it will disable the vro alarms.Secure both loose ends.

Now locate the two wires leading from the oil reservoir to the engine compartment and trace them to their plug-in connections and unplug and secure the loose ends. This will disable the low level alarm.

Cap off the oil inlet nearest the vro pump as possible .This will minimize the chance of any leakage.Mix 50:1 in fuel tank and with the fuel hose inlet removed from the vro pump, pump primer bulb until you can verify a hint of the TCW3 oil and fuel color present at the inlet of pump. This will prevent a lean oil startup.Reconnect fuel hose, pump up primer bulb and inspect for leaks.

Always a good idea that after disconnecting the vro alarms ,to then check the engines overheat sensor circuit for operation. You can do this by locating the tan colored temp sensor lead exiting at the top area of the headcover ,and grounding it to the engine block while the ignition key is in the 'on' position.Alarm should sound.

Tan/stripe lead can be grounded by either simply peeling back its plug connector insulating sleeve or by backprobing it with a test lead to ground.

Hold it guys - The 35 hp 3-cylinder does not use a VRO.

What you really need to do is remove the oil tank, disconnecting the 3-wire lead running to it. The wires are black, tan/yellow and tan/black.

Next, remove disconnect the hoses from the oil mixer unit and remove it.

Remove and discard the hose that ran from the top of the oiler to the fuel rail.

Re-route the hose from the pressure fuel pump (the one with the in-line fuel filter) and connect it to the fuel rail.

Make sure the hose does not have any kinks in it. You may need to trim some length off the hose.

Don't forget to premix at 50:1

-John
