Hi All,

This is my first post. I want to change my prop. Currently running at 6000 rpm about 39 mph on a 16 foot bass boat with a 10 x 15, 3 blade prop. Have little hole shot and planes real slow. Should I try a 17 pitch? Any idea if a four blade prop is available. The boats hull is like new, motor just tuned and carb rebuilt. Also get a lot of cavatation at low speeds. Installed a hydrofoil and still cavatates and planes slow. Help!

Assuming the tach is accurate you need to go with the 17 it should put you in the 5,600 range probably with a little more speed.Unfortunately this won't help the holeshot, but careful weight distribution and motor setup(vertical height) and trim should help.Always trim in to plane.Get rid of the hydrofoil and get Something like smart tabs should help as well they also help ride, ability to stay on plane with less power and combats no wake speed wander.
Ventilation at low speeds is a little unusual is there anything on the boat disturbing the water near the prop.Is the prop in good shape not worn or bent.Adding a little cup to the prop may help fight the ventilation.

Thankyou for your reply,

I dont see many options out there for props. Am I missing something? Nothing interfering with the prop. Think I used the wrong word with cavatation...I meant it wanders left and right at low speeds. Also what do you think of a four blade prop. Not that I see many options available. Is it not possible to go up in size of the prop as well as the pitch? Feels like the motor has a lot to give but just cant get the bite! Can you direct me to a company or web site that will help me get the right one? Thx!

If you mean it wanders at no wake speed lots of boats wander it takes practice to anticipate and correct without over correction.Something like Smart tabs help wander and will improve your hole shot.Diameter is generally not a consideration in prop selection. It is simply the product of prop design.
Main consideration in prop selection is pitch and design technology.Generally a stainless prop will out perform an aluminum.
A 4 blade usually will improve low end performance at some sacrifice to top end.I believe that year may use a Merc gearcase so there would seem to be
more selection than the Force gearcase.
Perhaps an expert will step in with some specific suggestions.
