I’m a neophyte when it comes to boating, So please bear with me. As a retired person I find great pleasure in restoring this old 17 foot , 1989 Bayliner Capri with a Chrysler Force 85 HP outboard. The motor runs great but some of the neoprene parts are showing their age, hardening, becoming brittle and need replacing.

I don’t know the correct name of the part I seek, so I’ll try to describe it’s function. It is the neoprene sleeve that makes the connection between the motor and the outer housing, and delivers the cooling water from the motor to the two ejection ports in the lower unit.

If I have explained this item in an understandable way and you know where I might get the replacement, or have a suggestion that would help make this connection. I would appreciate it very much.

Best regards

Richard R. Boyd

You are correct about it's looking like an accordion or a section of a vacuum cleaner hose. I believe it does spew out both exhaust and water. I’m guessing here but, it is about two and one half to three inches long, its is about one and one quarter to one and one half inches in diameter. I will have to remove the lower unit cowling to be more exact.

If you do have one in good shape, please let me know the cost, shipping and handling.

Thank you

R.

Sir;

I don't know what this particular part is called. It isn't identified in my Manual. It is a rubber like substance (Neoprene I think) there is a spring clip(Not shown), that holds it to, what I believe is the manifold. An internal spring and type of collar (Shown) holds the neoprene tight against the outer cowling of the lower unit.

Sorry, the poicture won't post here. I'll send it to your shop.

If you enlarge this picture you can see my problem. There is a split running from end to end allowing the cooling water to spew out inside the cowling rather than ejecting it out through the two holes it is obviously supposed to exit through.
It took me a while but this is what I'm looking for. The neoprene portion has hardened and split with age.

The Racine, WI. people tell me they don't support '89 Force Motors anymore. Yet I see both 120 and 90 HP Force motors that appear to be the same physical size and design. Is there a similar part that is interchangeable?
