Hello everyone. Hope y'all had a fun and safe weekend. We did up on Lake Tenkiller in Oklahoma.
My old '63 Glasspar 40 horse Evinrude has crapped out on me(damn O rings) so I'm thinking of going a different route.
An older friend has a 1998 21ft Crownline for sale and I'm interested in it. Just wanting some opinions on the boat and especially the motor(4cylinder?). Thanks for y'alls voice(s) and opinions in advance!

Re: 1998 Crownline Question (Opinion)

Crownline makes a very nice boat.

The boat you're considering could be anywhere from great to awful - how would WE know with no info or photos?

The engine is either great, average or poor - again no info given. Find out exactly what it is. Seems like Crownline wouldn't put a 4-cyl in a 21' boat though.

Not trying to give you a hard time, but if you want some help, you'll get it here....just provide all you can about the boat and engine/drive.

4 banger in a 21 is way under powered. 4.3 v6 fuel injected would be my minimum.

I love my Crown Line. Very well constructed, well thought out boat. From the reviews I've read they have been able to maintain this level of quality over the years. Used boats are on a case by case basis though, new owner reviews wont apply. Probably not a 4cyl, as mentioned that is way too small of an engine for a boat that size.

If it is a 4 cylinder, don't get it. I also find it hard to believe that Crownline, good boat company, would offer a 21 footer with a four cylinder.

I've had 2 Crownlines, both have performed and held up very well. Which model of Crownline is it? If it's a 210CCR (cuddy cabin), you will want at least a 5.7L engine and preferably trim tabs on it. With a smaller engine, no trim tabs and 4 adults onboard, the 210CCR will take awhile to get up on plane. A 4.3L engine in the 202BR (bow rider) will perform fine, topping out around 45-48 MPH. Performance on either the 210 or 202 will be better if the outdrive is a Bravo 3 or Volvo DP.

My friend has a '98 202BR, it`s a very nice boat. Gotta love that Corsica exhaust. It has a 350 Mag with aftermarket cam, intake, and carb. It absolutely jumps up on plane and tops out at 62 with a 19 pitch prop.

I think you would be happy with it. Crownline boats are great, well built and perform well. I have a 1998 Crownline 18.5ft Bow Rider for sale. It has a 5.0 litre engine w/ 2 props, 1@ 3 blade and a 1@ 5 blade stainless steel and runs great. Pulls 2 skiers up easily. Handles well in the water. Red w/white interior leather, gray carpet, great condition. I would be happy to send you pictures if you are interested. B Carter in Tulsa, Ok. carterbjc@valornet.com
