Hi - I have a new to me 50 HP Evinrude with low hours that I've been working on. When I purchased the motor I noticed that the linkage seemed to be out of spec per the Evinrude Service Manual - The maximum spark advance measurement was about 1/4" too long and the idle stop screw as short and was not making contact with the stop. In addition, the two rollers (one at the carb and another within a cam toward the rear) had fully deteriorated.

Last week I replaced the rollers and attempted to do get it in the right ballpark with a link and sync with the lower unit submerged in a trash can. I have it idling now with the throttle fully down but I think it could use some fine tuning. I plan to go through the link and sync process again this weekend while on the water (just away from the dock). Both carbs have been rebuilt.

Question to the forum is this - I don't see anywhere in the link and sync process (service manual) requiring the rear roller to line up with the arrows printed on the lever cam. Am I missing something here? Does the rear roller need to be between those two arrows?

Thanks in advance
