bought a 1998 Johnson 150 that had been sitting for about 8 years. Checked compression and it was 100 psi for all 6. Changed impeller. Mixed up some gas, seafoam and double oil. it cranked up but wouldn't stay running. it would crank every time but would only run for about 10 seconds. I pulled the air cover off and gas poured out of the bottom port carb. Tried to start it again and noticed gas pouring out of the bottom port carb. Next I soaked carbs in seafoam by filling up the bowls through metal tube sticking up through the middle of the carbs. after 24 hours I drained carbs. they all had very oily seafoam come out "except" the one that was giving me trouble. The seafoam that came out of that one was as clean as it looked going in. I'm confused! I figured the one that was pouring gas out would be the dirtiest. I haven't tried to restart yet. im soaking them one more time. Any ideas?

Take the carbs off and clean them properly. Also check your spark and make sure it jumps a 7/16" open air gap on a spark tester.

When you say properly clean do you mean rebuild? If I take them off I'll need to replace gaskets right? I do think they need rebuilt I'll just have to get 6 kits. Thanks for the response. I'll check the spark tomorrow

You really need to buy 6 carb rebuild kits, and some spray carb cleaner. Disassemble the carbs, clean every passageway, install new inlet needles and seats, set the float height and reassemble with new gaskets. Now you will need to set the idle mixture to it's initial setting and run the motor under load, to set the idle mixture properly.

Setting idle mixture is a new one on me. Carb Rebuilds I've done before but I'll have to look up idle mix set

cranked the motor up today after flushing carbs for three days with seafoam. fired right up and idled great. no fuel leaking from carbs. Would it be a good idea to double my oil for the first tank since the motor has sat for 8 years?
