Re: 1998 fisher 17 dominator good rig?
I have a 99 Fisher Dominator with 75HP Mercury force 2 stroke & Motor guide 43lbs thrust bow mount trolling motor. She was a 1 owner boat and he took excellent care of the body and engine. The deck however is another story, I guess after a while the plywood they use for decking gets old and starts to soak up H2O and starts to fall apart. If you're handy it's really easy to redo, just seal the plywood really good and you'll be fine for years; I'm using rustoleum truck bed liner painting it on with a brush. I've had the boat about 5wks and have been out 3x so far on the lake and it rides smooth. She is an all welded boat so you don't have to worry about leaks; as much; hopefully never. The manufacture claims you can fit 4 people on the boat which is true but you will be very cramped trying to fish. I recommend only 2, and the biggest need to stay in the center as you can throw the other person overboard if you're not careful. I'm 236 lbs and if I stand as far back as possible the boat will start to take in water through the 2 drain holes. A little scary but not to worry she still have another 4 inches or so to go. Other than the deck coming apart at the seams I really like the boat. With the engine up she only needs 4-6 inches of water; it might be less or little more but I can't find the spec sheet for her. Hopefully this helps.
