I have 24 foot pontoon boat with a 1998 75 HP Force. The motor starts and idles well and runs well up to about half throttle. When giving more throttle, motor acts like it's running out of gas then catches up, going up and down in RPMs. If you pump the bulb when this happens, it will maintain RPMs, but the bulb stays tight.I recently removed intake to replace a reed valve block.Any advice is appreciated, THANKS!

I have the same motor. First I'd make sure there is no air leaks at any fuel connector. Second, if you have not replaced the diaphragms in the fuel pump in a while you can change them. Its a cheap rebuild $11.00 and about 25 min. Third, when I rebuilt mine I replaced my fuel filter with a generic one from Napa. This caused the same problem you experienced. The filter had too much resistance and it would starve the carb for fuel. I replaced with a Mercury filter and the problem was solved. Let me know what you find.

You said you had replaced a reed. I'm curious what the symptoms were if you wouldn't mind.

Re: 1998 Force 75 starves for fuel at full throttle?

It dropped the center cylinder. At first I thought it was a fouled plug or ignition problem. When that was not it, I did compression test and made sure it was getting fire, all that was good, so I pulled the intake side, and one of the reeds had cracked and broken, leaving a hole. Symptoms were it ran very rough, would not idle and low on power. Thanks for your reply.I am going to try what you suggested.
