soooo i want to get a service manual for my car but there are sooo many different books.

i'm defiantly getting paper and no CD-ROM.

http://www.diyrepairmanuals.com/products.asp?cat=2158

i'm not going to buy from this website but it shows all of the books for my car. i want to get the shop/service repair manual. electrical vacuum diagrams.

i'm not sure whether i need anything else? such as the 1998 Ford Crown Victoria OBD II Powertrain Control & Emissions Diagnosis Service Manual

or 1998 Ford Crown Victoria Specifications Manual

or the 1998 Ford Crown Victoria Engine/Emission Facts Book Summary

or 1998 Ford Crown Victoria Pre-Delivery Inspection Manual

Re: 1998 grand marquis service manual

if you want the best, look on ebay for the ford service manual set. fully comprehensive.

just get a decent obd-2 scanner with book and search the codes online if you need more help with it.

http://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/

if you have a smart phone, just get a bluetooth obd-2 reader and download the "torque" app.

very good app, if you know how to read engine parameters.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ELM327-OBDI...475?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27bc38ff1b

it will read/erase codes as well as give you real world sensor output while the vehicle is running. If you dont have a smartphone there is a usb version that you can hook to your laptop which also gives you the sensor outputs, etc.

Factory shop manual would be fine, and should include the electrical diagrams. Vacuum diagrams are on a sticker under the hood, and by 1998 the amount of vacuum lines present on most engines had dwindled down to not many.

The Crown Vic spec manual, not sure what it is, perhaps another name for a sales brochure?

The Crown Vic engine/emissions fact book sounds like a warranty card for power-train/emissions components.

The Crown Vic pre-delivery inspection manual? Well....you could purchase this if you know some one with a time machine, and would like to go back to '97/'98 when your car was being rolled off the carrier that delivered the car from Ford to the dealerships lot. You would be able to help the guy who did the Pre-delivery inspection ("PDI") to your car (checking for manufacturer flaws) before the car was put for sale on the dealerships lot. :D ;)

3 non working windows eh? Are you sure the window lock isn't on?
With 3 not working, the first thing I would look at is the "Master switch" A.K.A. the drivers window switch. That is the switch that takes the most beating, and gets wet the most often when the window is rolled down in the rain. It's called the master switch, because in most cars the individual switches won't work without a working master switch.

Or... it could be individual issues with each window. ;)

lol! no, all of the switches are fine. driver side window sounds like it's going to fall apart when rollled down. passenger doesn't roll down. and the back right
sounds like the motor isn't even attached as well as the others....

Your window regulators use a cable and spool type system that works well, but cables can stretch/break, and the cable guides can get grooves worn in them.

Your drivers one sounds like it is worn out. The passenger side one sounds like either the motor is toast, or the regulator is jammed (or both). The RR probably has a broken regulator, or motor with stripped gears. Obviously its best to take the door panels off and see what you got for problems with each one.

I just checked Rockauto.com, and window regulators for your car are stupidly cheap (starting at 16 bucks for regulator W/O motor, and up to 60 W/ motor).

I thought those windows used the traditional ford scissor regulator? the ones like on the explorers, mustangs, towncars, etc with the 3 round plastic pieces inside that like to crumble to pieces? those are super easy to fix, just take the motor off and open it up and grab some replacement pieces in the "oh crap" isle at advance auto.

Allot of manufacturers are getting away from the scissor style regulators, and going with cable. Cable is cheaper to make, requires less door pocket space, and IMHO have less moving parts to rust or break.

This is what rock auto shows for the regulator;View attachment 112637

Like I mentioned before;
http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raframecatalog.php

Cheapest prices for NEW parts. I wouldn't trust a junk yard window regulator, especially one the same age as the ones in your vehicle.

Re: 1998 grand marquis service manual

i now pretty much understand car window.

the RR had stripped window gear plugs. 9 bucks to replace and i lubed the track.

i just fixed fixed the front driver's side. it also had broken gear plugs but the regulator is bad too. i can feel the cable and it's frayed and falling apart. it still works but will sooner or later break.

can i buy just the cable or should i just buy the regulator without the motor (motor is still going fast and strong)

still haven't done the passenger side yet (front)

Don't think you can do the cable alone. 16 bucks for a regulator with out a motor on Rockauto sounds good to me.
