Can anyone help me with options to the trainwreck I am in. Bought my 98 ficht in 99. Had updates done in Jan 2000. Just took outboard in to dealer for checkup and service. Engine failure immeadiately after launching the boat. Was able to idle back to marina and took it back thinking small problem. Dealer says at least 2 cylinders are fryed and around $2500 to repair. Service they did was basically running decarb through motor and changing fuel filters. They say it is the ficht engine. Bombardier say good luck since it is before their warranty take over. Im screwed. This is the engine the dealer sold me. Told me that the computer will warn and protect the engine from major failure. Dont work on it because its too high tech, bring it in. I have asked when to bring it in and have done so. And now I am looking at spending half the value of this aledged piece of junk just to repair 2 cylinders? Should I fight this dealer? Should I go to a Bombardier certified mechanic? Can I work on this engine myself? I am fairly mechanically adept. It only had 117 hour on it. No one told me about running decarb through the engine, especially the owners manual. What really gets me is that if this was a Chevrolet, a Ford, a Toyota, a Caterpillar, a John Deere, someone would work with me on a fix as a loyal customer. Even out of warranty a failure that has no tie to owners usage, I would get some sort of break. If the dealer has had it with Bombardier or OMC then take their products out of their showroom. If Bombardier will not stand by Johnson products then take the name off the cowling! Any input would be qreatly appreciated!
