I have this motor on a 1988 22ft Custom Craft. Top speed is 30mph at 5300rpm. Prop is a 14 3/4 X 17 Stainless. I hate the performance and want more speed. Thinking of switching to a Aluminum because its lighter. My thinking is that the lighter prop will increase the RPM some. To offset the increase in RPM, maybe go with a 14 1/2 X 19? Or 15 X 19? Need some input on this and also why is it so hard to find a 14 3/4 X 17 Aluminum? Tks!

You sir are headed in the wrong direction. You don't replace a SS with alum. Read the sales brochures and the reasons are spelled out there. The actual weight of the prop only comes into play when starting it revolving and not much then when compared to the weight of the water it's pushing.

Most OMC products run at 5500 tops, that I know, and you are close to the upper limit. You are getting about all you are going to get out of that boat. Did you do a GPS check on your speed or just using a regular pressure gauge?

We just got through working an Oceanrunner problem with another guy. If you will look up my responses and go back to a series entitled "motor position" as I recall you can see what this other guy had for a rig and what his numbers and problems were. Probably help you more than anything. Being an Oceanrunner, you are somewhat limited in your options......at least he was.

Re: 1998 Johnson 200 Oceanrunner Que

Yea, Im using the pressure guage on the dash. I pretty much tried everything to get more out of it. Raising the height of the motor, trim etc. I will check out "motor position" as well. I figured Im getting all I could out of it but wanted to raise the question anyway. Cant complain about the fuel usage either. Used to have a 120 V4 on here and the 200 actually burns slightly less than the 120. Thanks for the advice.
