I have owned this boat and motor for about 4 years now and right off the start I noticed the boat would not get on plane unless I did some fancy steering. The engine Mercury 0G682122 engine seemed to backfire alot and sputter never getting over 3500 rpm. Once in a while I could get it to plane but only after a few turns in the water while giving it full throttle.

On a recent fishing trip my mercury did something not many have seen in the north woods of Canada.
Not only did I lack power for the holeshot but while returning to the dock I noticed my 2 stroke oil was leaking from the cowling. (not very environmentaly friendly and slightly embarrasing).

I opened the cowl and found a hole was blown through the oil injection tank on the motor. I removed the tank and put a wood screw in it for the mean time and replaced one of the oil injection lines that had blown out.

I tried the boat again, and again found the oil injection hose from the middle cylinder on the oil tank side of the motor had blown/burnt completely apart.

Once back home I purchased a new oil tank and some tygon hose for oil injection line replacement. I replaced the lines and the tank and I noticed the ECM plug for the middle cylinder behind the oil tank was slightly disconnected. The blue area of the plug was showing. I connected the ECM correctly and tried the boat for one last time last year before storing the boat.

I was suprised to find the holeshots were immediate after the plug was corrected and now I cannot wait to get back behind the helm.

I was completely confused by the hole left in the replaced oil tank but I think I understand it now. I think the dead cylinder was caused by the ECM wire and there was fuel not being burnt until the exhaust ports opened. So the hole in the tank and the burnt oil injection line were caused by hot exhaust gasses.

I am wondering if anyone else has experienced similar problems or symptoms and if I might be overlooking something. Should I be using something other than tygon hose for the oil injection lines?

I like the fact that I can see the fluids traveling in the lines but do not know if this material is appropriate for this application.

I have not had the boat back in the water since last year and I am really looking forward to getting the most out of it this year.
