I have a 1998 Proline 170 that I recently purchased. Everything is great on the boat except I can not figure out how to work the baitwells. There is a switch on the console but it does not seem to do anything. When I manually put water in the wells it just drains out the bottom plug. Do I need to manually plug these drain holes? Am I not waiting long enough after flipping the console switch for water to fill the units?

Thanks in advance.

Re: 1998 Proline Baitwell

My ProLine is 1993, so this may not apply, but...

1) There is supposed to be a tall removable tube with a screen that goes in the drain such that water won't drain unless it reaches near the top.

2) On my boat the livewell pump and the washdown pump are one and the same. There is a valve in a recess in the port gunwale near the transom that directs the water from one place to another. So if it's in washdown mode and the faucet is closed nothing will happen if you turn the pump on (well not exactly - it will run for a second until the line is pressurized and then shut off).

3) In whatever mode it's in there is a seacock in the bilge that needs to be open for anything to work.
