I have an opportunity to purchase a brand new, in box Duo-Prop Outdrive, to replace my existing 1998 SX single prop.

The 98 is an SX-C 1.51, the new Duo Prop is a DP-SM 1.95 A1049563

The engine is a 5.7 250 hp.

I don't want to buy this thing if I can't use it, Can anybody tell me if I can get this to work? it looks like it will bolt right up to my gimble housing. I realize I'll need a prop set.

Your asking the same question as new member Kelleyo

Search for "volvo sx to dp conversion" and the first link will be a site which list the conversion kits

The DP is a nice drive but what are you trying to fix? Is your SX need replacing?

My lower unit torpedo is cracked, the unit is a 1998 SX-C 1.51.
A replacement drive is about 6k. I have an opportunity to get a brand new in the box DP-SM 1.95 for 4k.
I know it will bolt up.
I don't see where I need a conversion kit because I'm replacing the entire drive

Then you should be good. The DP having a higher ratio will require higher pitch props.

Hey Scott Danforth your see any issues with the swap?

assuming the unit is a bolt-in, yes, going from a 1.51 ratio SP to a 1.95:1 DP is the correct ratio.

the 1.95's have been behind SBC powered VP DP drives since the first 290DP back in '81

youre prop pair will most likely be XXXX series number 5's unless you are on a really light hull, then #6's, or #4 for a heavy hull (F series for stainless)

Bit of an unknown for props I’d say. Depending on what drive dp is is. Experimenting with props for these drives isn’t a cheap thing, unless you manage a try before you buy thing.
