What props are you running now, and how are they working in terms of WOT rpm and speed?

Re: 1998 wellcraft martinique 3000 twin 5.7 260hp alpha one gen2 prop question

Hello,

I currently have 14 1/4 inch /17 pitch vengeance props, but my problem is getting on the plane, my WOT is only about 4100 rpm's, I'm reading is should be 4400-4800 rpm's. I read on some other forums that people have installed hydrofoils, but I don't want to put any extra stress of outdrives if I don't have to.

As far as cruising speed, I'm about 22mph at 3100-3200 rpm's.

Boat is heavy, has generator, water heater near engines, tanks are 80 gal each.

I'd like to go with a different prop is possible, maybe 4 blade one.

Thank you,

Paul

Does your boat have trim tabs, and do they work?

the trim tabs work. Tabs are about 14 inch wide. I'm reading that the overall lenght of tabs should be the length of the boat, are they too small? They look factory.
Thanks,

Dropping pitch and increasing diameter will put you better shape in terms of getting up into the upper portion of your rpm range. That would help a lot with the time to plane.

Back shortly with my recommendation.

I'm going to recommend to step away from the SS props and put a set of serious "power" props on there; for a lot less money.

The Quicksilver (aluminum) 16 X 14 props will produce tremendous static thrust that will get the boat up onto a plane in no time. They will also serve to get your WOT rpm up where it should be( est 4600 rpm ).

A not quite as serious alternative would be the QS al 15.5 X 15. Either of these props will make a noticeable difference in your time to plane. They would both run a similar rpm at WOT.

For large, heavy boats, you have to think in terms of diameter as well as pitch. Here, it is not a secondary consideration.
